Considering Case D310F (4 cyl. diesel,3F/1R, no shuttle) crawler/loader/backhoe purchase for light&slow home use.Tractor # is 302XXXX, both loader and hoe are 408/409XXXX. Appears to start and run good, QD hoe works well and shows very little wear, loader looks like late Terratrack (bucket inside arms) has good teeth, light repairs.Loader and hoe will pick machine off ground and keep it there for a reasonable time. Sprockets and pins look very good, tractor turns well in both directions, but brakes do not appear to stop either track in turn nor will foot brake stop machine. Hydraulic oil shows water present. Anyone know year of mfr, engine specs, weights, parts/manuals availability, how bad is brake job, ballpark value? Thanks for your help.

i know im coming in late on this but, i have a 310g with backhoe. the backhoe couldnt be easier to detach. support on legs, and bucket, pull 4 pins, pull away, seperate hyd. line. brake linings cost $38, from newark n.j. just change hyd. oil and filter. it gets milky if operated in winter, or damp weather. the breather has no way of rejecting water vapor. i paid 3000 for mine 12 yrs ago, but it was in rough shape. if yours is really in good shape it might be worth it, its a neat little machine. good luck

mine has quick disconnects, and they connect back together for loader operation w/o backhoe.

JiminMd, appreciate diplomacy in advising me of correct track action in turns, I thought they were supposed to stop. I will decide next week and advise if it's available, price is greater than your estimate. Current owner says he has had machine for 20 or so years and had hoe off for a great while, farm use. Please remember that I am a novice at this and condition is subjective. Jack, thanks for info. Lack of reverser not serious drawback, however built up leg is part of very tall frame which already doesn't fit too well on machine (Laughing).

Brakes parts are not expensive. But doing a brake job Would probably involve removing the backhoe attachment. The brakes on my Case 310 crawler are located in the differential on either side of the ring gear. If you just have to replace the bands? You can do that by romoving the rear plate on the differential housing, disconnect the linkage and pull out the old brake bands and insert the new. If the drums are bad? Then you have to pull the axles, extract the differential gears to get at the brake drums. The water in the hydraulic oil is not good. But I've change my hydraulic oil a number of times and it always looks like it has water in it. I've owned my 310 for about 15 years and it doesn't seem to affect it's operation at all. My foot brake has never worked. But that's a minor thing. No power shuttle? That just builds up your left leg.

I have a 310E which was built in 1962, the F should be a couple years newer. Brakes are pretty easy to reline if that's the problem. You might check linkage adjustment, it's a very simple system. The hardest part may be removing the hoe. The access on mine is behind the transmission which is probably where the hoe is in the way. Do you know the history of the machine? I bought mine from the second owner and got a pretty good idea of how it had been used. Wouldn't think water in hyraulics would be a good thing. Pump and cylinder parts could be a lot more expensive than brakes. Suppose you know the steering brakes are not supposed to lock up a track...just slow one down and speed the other up. I would think the machine in good condition as you describe would be worth $5000. What's the asking price? Let me know if you decide not to persue it as I might be interested depending on location.
