Case 580 Specs?

I am looking to buy a backhoe, and have narrowed my search to the Case 580. I am looking for a 580C (or newer) 4WD unit with the extendable hoe, based largely on the mostly-favorable comments I have read on this and other dicsussion boards, and up-close looks at the 580 models in action around my community. I have searched for an on-line source for 580C specs (found none), and called the local Case dealer (he had nothing for anything older than the M models...). Can someone e-mail me a copy of the Case 580C physical and performance specs from their own manuals? I will be happy to accept a .pdf, a Word doc, or a text file, any way you can scan and send it. BTW, does anyone know of a 580C that is priced right, in relatively good shape, and is available near the north/east Alabama area? Thanks! Steve

Steve, if your looking for a 580C,it will be hard to find a 4x4 with extendahoe as those features were there more in the later models- the E,K,& L models. You can check out machinery trader. com and look up backhoes to get a idea for what your looking for.

Thanks Ray, I agree that the 4x4 and extendahoe features are not as common in the C model...I could give up on the extendahoe (I really need it mostly for cleaning up the creek banks on my place...) but I have been advised by commercial operators who have already worked my place to go for 4x4, given the terrain (hills) that I have...I figured the 580C models would be getting cheap enough by now that I can afford to buy one and stay within my budget... I hope someone in the group will be able to send to me a page out of their manuals that will spell out the specs for the 580C (or close-by models D,E, etc.) so I can do some compares to similar models (JD, CAT, etc.)... Thanks again for the reply! Steve

I have a 580C w/Extendahoe. 4wd would be a plus, but you have to remember that 4wd costs you about another 3k pounds of weight to carry about. Thats critical on certain soil types, that you run over with more weight, and turn to crap underneath you very quickly. you might consider a trackhoe instead.

Our soils are mostly hard clay and rocky on the uplands; the bottom land in the pasture is of course dark topsoil. I have observed other 4wd machines in both areas with little/no apparent problems. A commercial operator who recently worked our place with a Fermec 860 4wd (15800+ lbs) strongly recommended 4wd over 2wd for our area.
