What do I gain with a newer Dozer?

I currently have a TD-7E. Almost new undercarriage, etc. Looking down the road, either I a> Rebuild the current engine. b> Upgrade to a newer machine. In reality, what do I really gain with a newer machine, over rebuilding my current one?

Less down time, less time spent at night working on the thing to have it up and running the next day. A seat that is not worn out and steering linkage that needs replacing the list goes on. It sounds to me thouth you are more than interested in another dozer but are hesitent because of the computer controls. Just like you pickup, due to gov regulations the equipmnet industry is going the way of computer controlled engine to meet soot ppm output. But enough of this here is some advice, talk to an accountant about the tax advantages of new equipment. Talk to a Cat owner one was on here and he didn't care for his. Talk to a Case owner and then talk to a Deere owner about how they like there new dozers, what kind of problem they have and how the dealer responded. I have worked for a Deere dealer in service for 30 years and I will tell you what I tell all customers looking at new equipment, if it worries you because it is different or new to you then add power train warranty or power train + hydraulic warranty it is inexpensive and will give a peace of mind because you don't have to worry about those different things. Good luck, God bless.

Advise from an independent mechanic...hang onto the older equipment. New equipment means headaches with electronic controls, expensive electronic components to cure those headaches, etc etc etc. Electronics may have a place in OTR vehicles, but in my opinion have no place off road til they can make some drastic changes that allow the electronic controls to stand up to the typical use and abuse these machines see. For what it's worth, most of our customers run older machines and wouldn't have anything else. Just my .02

Jeff, I had a TD7e that I stupidly sold about 2 years ago. I now am the "proud" owner of a D3b. If it was my choice, I'd hang on for dear life to the TD7. Jim
