I'm currently using FIC/Unitrin and for liability only on truck and trailer (5yd DUmp, 15T tilt bed) is about 800$ a year. They are insuring me as commercial use I'm sure... For farm use, on the road maybe 200 miles a year seems very high. What carriers do you all use?

I wouldn't complain too much.My insurance co. just sent me a letter saying they will no longer insure trucks rated 1 ton and over. 7 years with this company,no claims,no tickets. Was paying $975/yr for 2 duallies and the wifes Suburban. Closest quote I've gotten so far is over $2000. for liability only with mileage/use restrictions. The insurance agent says this is because of the unusually high number of claims from the RV users, and the insurance co's losing money in the mutual fund/stock markets. Sounds like a crock to me,I think the ins.co's want everybody running around in Toyotas, and are pricing insurance so that is all anyone can afford.

Jeff, call Progressive, at 1-800-806-9598 $337.00 a year just for a small farms use. The guy that farms the 136 acres, may be big time farmer, so his cost will be more. goof

Progressive put the screws to me . I had commercial ins for years when I was in the construction business with another company , but when I closed my business due to health ; my agent put me with Progressive . I had my first accident after changing to Progressive & they wrote me off . They informed that I'd have to take out high risk ins now . No other company would take me because I had been with Progressive & now I was classed as high risk . Try pricing high risk ins . Another company agent told me to go back to Progressive & take out commercial ins with them , stay with them until the accident was off my record & then go back to him. He could then put me back on regular ins with his company at a cheaper rate . I've talked to several people that have had bouts with Progressive in the past . Good luck .

I insured a GMC gas burning dump truck as a farm vehicle with state farm for less than $100 for a year. I told them I wanted the cheapest insurance they had. So far it should be a good deal for them. It has set w/o being cranked for 2 months now.

Thats cheap for a dump truck, they have a bad rap because of broke wind sheilds. I know in this state its next to impossiable to get insurance just for farm use with a truck like that, reason is they figure you will end up useing it to make a few extra bucks by hireing out. Ya I've been there done that, and hope to get the engine fixed in my dump truck this spring , 1963 Diamond-T
