My buddy is a logger who swears by JD machines. I had decided to buy a jd350c but after reading some of the posts on this site I am now also concidering case dozers. Which case dozer is the equivalent to a 350c deere ? Which would you buy, the jd or the case and why ? I've been having trouble finding machines like the above for sale, any good spots to look ?
this is a great site, thanks.

In my area there is probably a 7 to 1 ratio, you see 7 JD's for every 1 Case so quite naturally your going to have more trouble out of the JD's just because of the number of them, not knocking Case (if it pushes dirt I like it) they are a good machine but dont let the responses here affect your decision this is a great place to get info. it is not the final authority about how to spend your money. Case made 350 and 450 machines that were comparable to JD 350, 450.

I was a Deere mechanic for a long time, so I'm familiar with the 350 series. Mechanics, thought, see more broken machines then good ones. We had a lot of loggers that used them for bunching trees to the skidway where a skidder would do the rest. They're a rugged machine, but a 450 Deere will do a lot more, and hold up much better if you're going to work it hard. I have to say, though, I know of quite a few ex-Deere guys that have changed over to Case machines with power-steering. By power steering, I mean that some of Cases keep power to both tracks when turning, whereas the 350/450 series Deeres don't. As far as a Case that's equivalent to a Deere 350, I don't know of one. The little Case 310s and 320s are lighter then the Deere 350 but have bigger engines. I'll assume the 450 is as heavy, or maybe a little more than the 350 Deere. I've got an Allis Chalmers HD4 which is just a step about the Deere 350 and a step below the Deere 450.
