On the old IH they really did not use grease, it was oil. Depending upon the amount of use and the type of rollers ect that you had you were supposed to oil them daily. Now I have seen guys that convert the grease/oil fitting to standard grease fittings. I do not like that much since it seems to not allow for the grease to move and lubricate as well and the brass bushings give out easier. They used a button lock-on fitting attached to a pump lubricator. The lock on is what oppens up the valve on the fitting You can still find the lubrictators at tractor supply stores, farm stores, junk dealers. Just got one branded by CAT for use with IH. Paint it red and you will never see the difference from the book. Just change hoses and go. Never want to grease the rails, Grease causes dirt to stick to the rails and you will accelerate wear not reduce it. They hold a couple of gallons of oil and have a pump handle. One good thing about them is I use the same device for filling my final drives, transmissions, and for lubing tractors ect. Very handy to have a a lubricator bucket. Good luck with your TD6, good machine. You may want to check out www.ibdozing.com. They have a large collection of IH equipment there.
