I have a hitachi ex60-2 excavator -lots of power swinging and braking to right -- a lot less power swinging and braking to left, have just replaced main pump that failed - but this did not solved this particular problem --problem gets worse as machine and hydralic oil warms up

thanks for the help to everyone -- the relief valve was the problem -- blown o-ring - got the local seal supplier to make up a new seal kit - $22.00 --the dealer said the valve is not rebuildable - wanted $ 459.00 for a new one!!!--thanks again - TIM

I don't have an EX60-2 book but do have an EX80-5.
The swing motors on these smaller units typically have two crossover reliefs, one for each way, and two anti cavitation check valves. The anti cavs were generally under plugs, (screwed in horizontally), on the top of the motor and were removed using an Allen wench (Hex key) I doubt if the rotating group is bad but this can be checked via a case drain test.
Typically there are 4 lines (hoses) going to the motor, two high pressure and two low pressure. Of the two low pressure lines, the smaller is the motor case drain and the larger is the anti cav make up oil. Remove the case drain line and plug it. Attach a hose to the fitting on the motor (JIC 37 deg. flare or maybe ORS) and aim it into a bucket. Stall the swing with the bucket and see how much oil comes out of the drain line. There is a GPM spec for the amount of oil but typically, if the motor is bad, you will have a full hose of oil spraying out. (About like a garden hose)
Never plug the case drain fitting on the motor as you will blow your shaft seal and may lift and roll the brass slipper shoes.

You will find the cross over relief valves located in the top of the swing motor. I can`t remember which one is what direction but that is the location, and probably as was suggested the problem.

Left hand circuit relief valve has crap in it.. clean or replace circuit relief valve. Valve is held open partially with metal from pump failure.. May also have a counterbalance valve in this circuit held open from same failure.. Look in your book for locations
