my nephew is looking at a JD 555 what to know what kind of problems they had or anything special to look for. also can anyone tell me a year? the tag has 555A-2977937 if there are any more numbers the tag is broken off at this point. what should they be worth? The guy asking 14,500. I know price has to be based on condition. I bought a JD350 B about a year ago, my first and it was a learning experience and I appreciated all the info I got through everyone out there. I'm going to look at this one with my nephew over the weekend. will probebly have more questions. Thanks all

Like the other fellow stated...leave it where it is...seems like every one of those that is for sale has a transmission problem....very expensive in parts as well as very labor intensive to repair. As it has a torque converter , alot of people don't notice it is slipping when they try it out...but after it gets warm , she no push no more !!!

I had one of those a few years ago,the A,model was built from 1975 to 1983 acording to my parts book, the machines worked fine, but the trans, gave a lot of trouble, very expensive to fix, also those machines broke trans housings and side frames, way too much money, leave it where it is,----- Joe.
