Case 580 CK Fuel Problems - Purging System

Last week I believe I had fuel Gelling problems that clogged my primary and final fuel filters and effectivly resulted in running the machine out of fuel. I have replaced the filters and am now trying to purge the system. I have fuel in the line up to inlet of the injector pump and but nothing out of the High Pressure lines out of the pump. I'm an amateur at this but I assume that once the fuel is to the injector pump I would have to crank over the engine to purge the pump at the 4 outlets. (I crank over the engine now with nothing coming out of the ports) Then purge at each injector. Is this what I should do or is there an easier way? I'm going to check the pump internal filter tonight.

(188 Engine - Roosa Master Pump)

Thanks

John R

When my 580 CK runs out of fuel we have to put air pressure in the tank to get it to run. Once it cranks then it clears up.

The Roosamster DB pump doesn't require bleeding by cracking the injectors. As long as fuel is getting to it, it will bleed itself out if it's working properly. If you're sure the pump just isn't shut off, and it won't pump any fuel, pull the timing window off of it. It's the little rectangular steel cover held on by two screws on the side of the pump, maybe an inch wide. Some fuel will drain out of the pump when you pull it but it won't hurt anything. When you pull the cover off, check and see if there's any debris in the opening. If you see little things that look like mouse turds, then the internal governor weight retaining ring is broken. Now, having someone crank the engine (unless you can turn it a little by hand) and try to observe rotational movement inside the pump. If the engine turns, but you don't see anything moving inside the pump, it might be seized and the pump driveshaft broken.

I had a similar situation before. I was able to crack the lines open at the injectors and get it flowing. Now the bad news, I was not able to get it to work until I had the pump rebuilt. Once rebuilt it only took a few minutes to establish flow. Expect $300-400 on a rebuild.
