I recently bought an H3. Just now found out what it is thanks to an 5 year old forum. All I can read on the serial # is H3. The rest is pitted out. The engine # is CE51114 on the right side at bell housing. There is another # on the left side of the block between the oil filter and the distributer. It is AM291617. The # on top of the trans is 215828 and also on the trans is CLCLLP. It has a hydraulic 6 way blade. None of the blade frame is on the outside of the tracks. All between the frame and tracks. Hand and foot clutch with the hand clutch also selecting direction of travel. 4 forward and 4 reverse. Has a large AC winch on back. Gas gauge on tank. Anyone who can give me any info on this tractor would be appreciated. Especially the year, production #s and value. U/C is about 75 or 80%. Sheetmetal is good. No leaks. Everything works well. Paid $1000. Did I go Wrong?

Keep looking for a stamped number in a casting somewhere (back of rear drive housing?). There should be a 4-digit number. 1001 started in 1960 and the H3 series ended in 1968 with 9700 something.

If it is as you say it is, and runs and is complete, you virtually stole it. I'll give you $2000 right now if you can drop it off in Central New York. I paid $3600 for my HD4 with 6 way blade, a badly smoking engine and 50% undercarraiage, and no winch. I searched a long time to get one that cheap. I just saw an HD3 with 6-way blade in pretty nice shape go for $5800. Also saw an H3 parts machine with half the engine missing and no blade and it sold for $1400 at auction.

Thanks for value but I had no intention of selling. Intend to use it. Seems to be a good tractor. Engine was stuck when I bought it but penetrating oil, prybar fresh gas and about 2 or three hours in the mans back yard where I bought it and I had it running. Drove it up to the road and onto trailer. Worst thing to it is the paint. It is not the right color and it has about 5 different color coats I have to get off. Thanks again for the info. Anyone Who wants to chat or swap pictures can email me at Jduke228@cs.com I enjoy learning about these machines. Grew up around Cat and John Deere. Started on D6 cable blade straight shift. New to AC's but I am beginning to like very much.
