Prior to buying my 1979 D3, diesel from a leaking hand pump dripped on the engine mount. The mount deteriorated and now needs to be replaced. Does anyone know the procedure for replacing it? I don't know whether to take the belly plate off, place some 2x6s under the pan and lift it with a hydraulic jack OR pull the hood and try to lift it from above with a come along. To avoid removing either the hood or the belly plate, I also wondered if you could run a chain under the engine (protected by a 2x6), hook the chain on the side of the frame opposite the mount to be replaced, clip a heavy S hook on the chain, and then use the hydraulic jack (positioned against the fame) to lift the engine. The engine only needs to be lifted about two inches. A real mechanic would probably remove the hood and lift the engine with an autocrane but I'm just a weekender. Thanks.

I would recomend taking off the hood and lifting with a come along. Also loosen off the bolts in all 4 mounts then lift only enough to get the mount out and the new one in.
