D3 Tranny trouble

I'm looking for troubleshooting suggestions for my Cat D3. I've been having trouble with it for a while and its getting worse. The D3 lacks power in all gears (powershift 3F,1R) and seems to get worse as the it gets warm. Starts out okay, but as soon as any large load is placed on the dozer, the transmission seems to cut out. It will surge for a second or two and then go into nuetral and repeat. As it gets warmer, even a small hill will be too much for it. Steering also becomes difficult due to the transmision cutting out when applying the steering clutch.

I had an oil leak in the transmission and I eventually tracked it down to a leaking seal on the main drive to the bevel gear. Replaced the seal and oil, but still experienced the problems. There was no sign of metal in the old oil.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Don

in the top of the trans. there is a screen that plugs up need to be replaced it is located right rear behind 3 3-8inch bolts comes out the back top of trans you have to renove the floor plat to get to it.

Don, since it gets worse when hot it more likely has a bad leak inside, the pump to valve sleeve seals, seals under the control valve or a worn pump. Wash the screen as Ben says and if it's not any better clean off the top, remove the cover plate and look for oil spraying out of the ends of the tube to the valve from the pump inside.
