I just bought a subject 2000 skid steer. Anybody know anything about these. It is only 36 HP but should be of use for me here on the farm. I don't like the electronic dash board idea but it only has 240 hours on it. I don't understand what the manual is talking about when it talks of the hydrostatic transmission being "charged" with pressure, what is that all about? Is the hydrostat a sealed unit or is it part of the hydraulic system using the same oil as the lift cylinders and all? Is there anything I should be doing in the way of maintenance or watching? What usually goes wrong with these things?

wayne, i've worked on ls 180's. there are 2 hydraulic systems in the machine, the hydrostatic, and the hydrodynamic. in the hydrostatic, fluid only moves when the machine does, with the other fluid is in constant motion, under constant pressure. there is however some static pressure in the drive system, if you crack a fitting, it'll leak. you have no transmission in that unit, just drive pumps, under the seat, and drive motors, on the chain cases. there are 2 reservoirs for fluid, both take hy trans. the hydrostatic reservoir should be under the seat, and the other in the back, in the engine compartment. the most common failures were in the front. stress cracks on the attachment bracket should be addressed immediately, make sure the welds are good, or you'll do more harm than good. second biggest problem, stress cracks in the frame behind the cab, and all attachment points for the cylinders. 3rd biggest problem is the motors and pumps for the drive system. if you're not sure how good its been serviced in the past, drain, fill, and put all new filters on, and look at your fluids to see how much discoloration/water there may be, and deal with accordingly. they're basically good solid reliable machines, but only if maintained well. good luck, jim

I am pretty sure the LS150 does not have two separate hydraulic systems or at least not two reservoirs! I think that both systems use the same reservoir. I can only find one on the machine and the owners manual does not mention another either.
