Root Rake Design

I plan to build a root rake to mount onto a JD 450C dozer. I think that I could use a 4" schedule 40 (80?) pipe across the lower front of the blade (8' blade)and have the teeth running through the pipe on 18" centers. This 4" pipe would then be connected through two pieces of channel to the top of the blade where a couple of receivers are to be welded to the top of the blade to support the load.
My question is: Does this sound like a reasonable design and what thickness of flat stock should I make the teeth and at what angle/depth should they be relative to the blade?

I used 1x3 steel for the frame, and AR500
for the lower teeth.

This is currently in use on TD7e

Hi Ron

In the left hand tool bar, under Galleries if you go to the 'implement photos' and type in the search "dozer brush rake" there is a couple of pictures of one type or style of rake there that may give you some ideas?

Look at some of the ads in Rock and Dirt. You can get some ideas from the pictures.

i used to build rakes for tractors.. i don't think your design is heavy enough... i used 8" pipe that had a 3/4 wall... and the teeth i used were made from 2" flatbar.... uprighs were the same 2"flat... contact me at jimcat2@webtv.net if you want to.. i'm in houston... but my rakes are all over west texas...
