I want to make sure the track isn't too tight since I'm seeing some leakage from one of the sprocket seals. The manual I have talks about driving onto a 1 foot block of wood and then measuring the dip in the chain while standing on it. Is using the block of wood really necessary? If so, I'd appreciate any comments about using the block of wood since I'm having trouble visualizing this process. thanks Richard

If you have about 1-1 1/2" sag between the idler and top roller, you are ok. Check this in the conditions you are running in. If you are working in sticky mud, this will pack in the chains causing the track to tighten. The seal on the final should not be affected by track tension unless they are way too tight. It should be repaired as soon as possible because if oil is getting out, dirt and water are getting in.
