If I was looking for a Case 188 diesel block what should I have to pay for one??? Looked at 580 backhoe that needs one and was wondering what a bock was worth.

I'm not what you'd call a Case enthusiest or expert so my knowledge is somewhat limited on the matter of prices. I have a low-hours 207D that is a bolt-in replacement for a 188D and was offered $1000 for it. I didn't sell it because I've got a 580CK hoe sitting in my shop with a blown 188 in it. Been almost four years now. My intention was to swap engines, but so far I haven't gotten around to it. Picked up two running hoes since pulling the Case apart, so I no longer need it. Thus my lack of inspiration. The 188D that's in it has a hole in the side of the block where a rod is peeking through. Must be a common thing in 188Ds, because I've seen a lot of them with patches in that block area. It's a non-strategic spot, i.e. no coolant or oil galleries. Anyway, I'd love someone to come and buy the whole mess; I want it out of my shop. I've been hesitant to drag it out, because it's too much work to get it back in if I decide to fix it. The machine itself is about as beat as one can get and still be used. Pins loose all over the hoe and loader, and lots of crappy welds and braces. But . . . it was being used daily until the guy was plowing snow with it and the rod wanted to see the outside world. Trans. and hydraulics were working fine. Anybody wants the mess, take it all for $2300. Blown 188D is G188 #2646771. Machine is 580CK ser. # 8336306. Replacement engine is 207D, ser.# 4307581. I'm in central New York state near Cooperstown, Oneonta, and Cobleskill. At present, the front end is off the machine and old engine is ready to come out. My email address is jdemaris@capital.net Don't contact unless interested in the whole mess.

Same thing here. We're looking for one for a 450 loader. I've found complete engines, but no short blocks. Several Case tractors had them. Some have differant splines then what we need. Please post the information when you find one.

hey guys, i have an older 310 crawler parts machine with a diesel, parts engine. i assume its a 188. the engine was set up when i acquired it with another machine. i poured fuel down the exhaust, and covered it. i havent tried to turn it since. it has the older style injectors, but the pump appears to be the same as the roosamaster on my 310g. is it worth anything?
