I'm thinking of buying a mid-1980's Komatsu D66s track loader, but I'm now hearing horror stories about them. Does anyone have any comment on these machines?
Thanks

They are real good machines the only problems i had with the one i operated was the when it would hit a sharp bump it would sto traveling and have to have the switch cut off then on again to travel. I noticed the slack in the buck wouldcome out at that so I wired the self levfeler roller switch on the tilt cylinder back and it stopped that till I could get the new one in. Another thing is taht if the battery gets low from a bad alternator it will stoop them move a few fett then repeat. Im not a full time mechanic but i traced it down to low voltage causing the problems. I found a corroded alternator terminal cleaned it and it was solved. Before this it was hveing spells of jumping into revers nomatter what the hydrostaic valve was in to stopp it i just bumped the switch off. All the caniptions were cured with a new battery and cleaned terminals and the self leveler switch fixed i think it was about 450 in all to fix. Huffman Incorporated form Poplar Bluff Mo was the company they had about 5 of them i think. They were good machines the ones we had. If you could look there phone number up and contact their head mechanic Richard Lewis he could tell you about what to look for on them
