Dozer itch

opinions?

I've got the itch for a smaller dozer. We've got some acreage in north central Texas, and could use a machine to push brush (including some cedar), enlarge some tanks and maintain/cut a few roads.

Don't mind working on an older crawler, but I'd rather spend more time on it than under it.

And, of course, I'd like to spend as little cash as I can and still get a good machine.

I'd appreciate any opinions on make and model (either good or bad!).

What machines should I be looking for, and what should I avoid? Any help is appreciated.

I have just purchased a JD 440IC track loader in good operating condition, I had to spend some money to get it in every day running condition, whitch I have ran it every day now for the past 22 days and to day it went down over a part I knew was bad. I am really proud of my little grunt, I talked the seller down to $3100 then had to make some repairs whitch has placed me back to $100 more than where he started at, So I really have no advice as on how to determine a good deal but make sure the undercarage is good, besides that let you're itch be you're guide. I will recomend a JD 440IC to anybody as a starter machine but stay clear of JD 440IC Diesel they have advanced problems.
good luck.
