I'm working on a JD 310, just got back from my dealer. I need to replace some pins and bushings in the swing arm. The price quoted d***n near gave me a heart attack! So I'm looking for a less expensive alternative. Any suggestions?

You've got me curious. Since you go by the name "Catskill Pete", I assume you're in the Catskills? I worked a long time for what was the only Deere industrial (and ag and forestry) dealer in the area until we closed shop ca. 1989 (Laneway Inc. in Oneonta and Harpersfield). Who's the dealer you're using?

We have probably crossed paths before then. I live in Roxbury and have dealt with Laneway. Currently deal with SNB.

Yeah, I've had to buy a few crawler parts from them. They don't seem to know much about the older equipment, especially industrial. Russ Cole truck parts sold his Deere industrial contract to the Beisler brothers - and they're selling parts in the Oneonta area - but they're listed under "Sewards Sand and Gravel." They are more reasonable than SNB.

Thanks I'll follow up on that, I know Cole is back in his old location and someone told me he held on to JD parts. Correct? Or as screwed up as most secondhand info. Mostly I was looking for a cheaper alternative to JD. $450 for 4 pins and 4 bushings tend to make me froth at the mouth and use words my mother wouldn't approve of.

Russ did open up his old shop (and sold his new one) but he doesn't handle Deere parts anymore. He sold his inventory to Dave Beisler who owns Sewards Sand and Gravel. Dave is a user, not just a parts seller. He's been in the construction, excavation, and logging business for years. He has the Deere industrial parts contract along with Russ Cole's inventory, and he prefers to sell aftermarket parts when he can find them. I just priced some Berco rollers with him. On the subject of pins and bushings, they are MUCH cheaper if you can find someone that stocks bushing and pin stock and can cut you off a few pieces. The stock has to be bought in minimum lenghs, like 10 or 20 foot sections, so it's not worth buying it yourself for one job.
