Case 450B - removing injectors ?

Hello - it's me again. I finally got the adjusters built and tracks back on, replaced some pins and bushings, repaired some minor things and have begun to tinker with the engine again. Still hoping to get it to run. I am trying to remove the injectors to get them tested. I made a tool to pull the injector using a thick washer cut out on one side to fit the groove in the base of injector. Used a slide hammer to pull the tool I made, very much like the tool I see in my manual. They will not budge. Shall I keep trying? Am I doing something wrong? If I plan to replace them all, is there anything wrong with gripping them with a pair of vice grips and yanking them out while rotating? This thing is proving to be a challenge and I want to try this one last thing before calling Case dealer to come and rebuild. They have told me they will replace all 4 injectors anyway, so I might as well do it and see if there is a chance she will start.

Any suggestions appreciated.

I've never had to pull the injectors out of any of my Cases yet, but the injectors in my 580CK with the 188D engine look the same as in John Deere - and I've had lots of experience with the Deere injectors. The little "pencil" injectors with a groove in them - meant for use with a slide-hammer injector puller. If your tool doesn't work, than try a lady slipper type pry bar on them. If that doesn't work, you won't hurt anything trying to grip them with pliers or vise-grips, but sometimes they'll break off before coming out. When I worked as a Deere mechanic, I came across quite a few that were so stuck that I had to pull the head of then drive them out from the inside. Before you put new injectors back in - or the used ones with new teflon seals on them - clean the injector holes out and use Never-Seiz or equivalent on the injectors.

Thanks Jdemaris. I just do not want to break anything else I am trying to fix. I have spent a great deal of time on this thing drilling and removing bolts I broke trying to remove. A can of Anti-Seize was the best investment I made. And I have used it on every bolt I have put in. I just wanted to make sure I wont hurt anything by pulling and rotating with vice grips. I plan to make my puller a little heavier tonight and try one more time before I go with vice grips.
What happens to the stuff I clean out of the injector hole? Manual says blow with air, but to me that means it goes straight into the chamber?

Yeah, it's going to land inside the combustion chamber, but hopefully . . . all it will be is carbon. The injectors (if like the Deere stuff) have teflon seals on them that are replaceable if you reuse the injectors. It's been my experience that they're not worth the bother. We used to take them apart, clean them up, relap and adjust them - but they didn't last like a new one. Basically they're "throw away" injectors.
