Reference your earlier post on winches: I have a Model E Carco winch, dealer rebuilt, that is supposed to fit an Allis HD4 or HD5. I bought it for my new old HD3, but then found a JD450 with a winch that is missing the hydraulic controls. Can't find parts for it or a complete winch in this area. Maybe we can work out a trade? Let me know. P.S. Remove the 44 from the email address.

I don't have any winches to trade but will keep you in mind next time I see a Deere winch for sale. According to my HD4 book, it calls for a model #403 winch. I don't know if it was a Carco or not. What parts are missing from the Deere winch you got? If it's a Deere power winch you should be able to get any parts for it. If it's a manual winch, Deere or Cargo, and you're missing the big master cylinder - they're kind of pricey and hard to find.

I am missing the winch control valve, which was only on the earliest 450's. This control was changed because of unreliability (according to the local JD heavy equipment dealer) and is no longer available. I need to rig up a substitute control or (more probably) replace the winch with a later model. I think this Carco Model E was primarily on the early Cats, D2-R4-D4, but I've been wrong before. I was also told it fit some of the Allis HD series. If you can, send me a scan of the #403 winch to compare with mine.
