Ohhh man, I measured the bore size in my motor today. It was with a set of calipars so its not right on. But is measured 3.875 or so.
Shouldn't it be 4.00 for the 2-53 ????? ???
I think I read som where that it should be 4.00
Thanks]

Deere has excellent 2-53 manual as they were used in 435/440 wheel tractors and 440 crawlers. When rebuilding go with the "N" series components or be doomed to the misorable cold weather starting "S" engine. Compression is 21 to 1 vs. 17 to 1 and "N" injectors spray a finer mist. The blower end plates need to be machined for the the oil seal upgrade. Reduces the chance of runaways. Engines without oil spray rods to cool the pistons can only run only 35 injectors. N45/N50's's are about the biggest that can be run without overfueling depending on exhaust and intake restrictions.Yes I know there are some who use N70's and such. There has been updates from Detroit on the valve and cam follower springs. A new HD cam follower spring is now used on both the valve and injector followers. Valve springs have been beefed as well. 2400rpm all day no problem on a two valve head.

Scott, I don't know where there is a bargain day sevice manual, I have a near new one but it is burried in a pallet of service books until I get
a bigger office built. Also have parts book for it. I have two brands of gasket sets listed for a 2-53 , one says (except john deere) and the other doesn't say . Head sets are the same for all, but something in the lower set is different .
