Can worn out sprockets be fixed by welding in inserts rather than buying new sprockets and if so has anyone had any experience with these?
Thanks

Thanks for the info, the chain is not worn but the pins need replacing. I plan on putting on new pins and bushings, Don't the pins wear into the sprocket rather than the chain?
Thanks again.

If the rail or links (some call them chains) are not to bad the pins and bushing can be pressed apart turned 180 deg. then pressed back together.then with weld in segments you shud be good for a long time. Yrs back their were guys who went around the country in the winter doing just this process and I worked for one of them one winter. John

I will send you the name of a guy that sells inserts to weld into your sprocket. Wait until the next time I am out in my shop to look it up.

It won't do you much good to put segments in if the chain is worn,it will just eat them right out, unless you are just trying to get another couple hundred hours out of a worn chain.

some times people just take welding rod and build up the sprocket teeth were it contacts the chain. i dont think it sounds good but it happens. the weld is like a new sprocket and just streaches the chain more.

Most people have new after market rims welded on to their one piece sprockets, some sprockets have bolt on rims and some have bolt on segments,a set of rims would be better and probably cheaper than building up the worn teeth.
