I just recently got interested in a Caterpillar DW 20, only I don't know anything about them! I can't seen to find ANYTHING about these rare tractors. I would like to know what engine they had, horsepower, what they are worth, any problems associated with them, how many were made, and about how rare they are, as I have never even heard of them! ANY info on this neat tractor is appreciated. Thanks a bunch!

There are a couple of pics of DW20's on HCEA.net. The historic construction equipment association website. Look in the machinery gallery. They look neat!

They were a straight shift tractor used to pull pans belly dumps rear dumps, water wagons and sheeps foot rollers. Dad used to operate them with he was 16 Id lov to get my hands on one. He said they ould fly for their day. I sw one a few months ago next to a job i was on but they had removed the rear wheels and had a set of Carron sheeps foot wheels on the back.

Not sure what you have found or interested in but hrs my TCW. If it is large (meaning 7ft tires) has a 5 speed tranny with a radiator that sticks up 4-5 inches above the hood then I can help. They were made to pull a 2 wheel (on the Rear) scraper-pan - or can-anyway an earth hauling machine capabale of holding 20 cu.yds top speed around 25 mph as I remember.Their pull type couisin was the DW21 Both were in operation by the mid 50's. I became a pull skinner in 49 in Iowa for Green and Groebeck out of Des Moines. They had a six cylinder pony motor started diesel abt 275 Hp if I remember right. They also had a bad habit of cracking cylinder heads in steep ground operation. Many out hr in the west (after 1955 or so) changed to the old iron lung 300 Cummins. I think I have a pix of a DW21 with my bride sitting in the seat in 1956.If it would help.

Thanks again. If you wouldn't mind sending me that picture, I think it would help me to ID the tractor, as I can't seen to find a good picture anywhere! Don't feel that you have to send me the picture, but it would help me out.
