TD5 brakes and steering

I have a 1967 TD5 that seems to steer ok going in reverse but not forward. While going backwards, when I pull on the left actuator the tractor goes left. However, when I am going forward and I pull back on the left actuator, I continue to go straight. The right side works both fowards and backwards. Any thoughts on this. I probably need to replace the brake pads and steering clutches, but want to verify.

Also, I tried to adjust the left side brake and noted that the threaded rod for the adjustment nut is broken on the outer end. Does anyone have an idea where parts for this may be available. I have a sneaking suspicion that I'll need parts when I take this apart to replace clutces and such. Finally, and ideas on where to purchase inexpensive friction material is always appreciated.
