can you inframe rebuild the engine in a 955k? There seems to be little room to acess the rear rod & main due to the frame being very close.

Jim you should lift it out to work on it. Be sure to get the ballancer shafts timed when you put the oil pump back on and align the engine to the torque when installed.

Yes, the alignment is an important detail, I ran a 955 with a fresh motor, it failed 3 times before it was aligned properly. It breaks free & you are stuck where you are. Not sure about that asssembly, but I thought I recalled seeing pieces of some material after it happened. I kept telling the field super, " It's not me, I am very respectful of other peoples machines, and do not abuse equipment", after the 3rd time it was obvious ) What a way to start your first week with a new company ! Previous post reminded me about that.

Seem to think I talked to you before about this Billy. Unless it happened to another new guy on the job that they thought was rough on machinery. You have to start by setting the rear mount shims to get the center right, then shift side to side to make it within .080" runout on the diameter when tightned down.Slack the rear bolts. Then you have to set the shims and shift the front side to side to to make the face run out within .026" I try to make them as close to .000 runout as shims will allow.

Don't recall actually, was it on the ACMOC BB ?, saw the post here, figured I would add in the results of what happens if you don't have correct alignment from my expereience with it as an operator. I'm sure the mechanics were frustrated after the 3rd time dragging it into the shop from the field. After that I spent a lot of hours on it, ran great.

Yes it was over there Billy, some guy had the tugs ripping out of a 3T if I remember right, and I had a similar conversation. I am sure many others have been down that road too. There are a lot of mechanics out there winging it without any manuals to read and know how important allignment of a coupling is.

Gotcha, you're right about that, lot of em shoot from the hip, the outfit that owned this one was a decent company, mechanics were pretty good, most problems & preventative maintenance were always done on time.
