Proper use of reverser on JD 350

I've just finished an inframe on my loader. I've changed out all filters and fluids and adjusted everthing I can find on the machine and it really runs sweet. When I want to go into reverse, I use the clutch pedal before pulling down on the reverser lever. Is that correct or is it designed to be used without the clutch. I've also noticed that it is stiff when cold and I just use the gear lever for reverse until it warms up. I've seen a lot of posts on reverser problems and it seems to be a weak point. Is there any periodic maintenance that needs to be done to the reverser or anything I should be checking. Thanks so much for your help - I have learned a lot from you knowledge.

Not much for maintenance other than keeping good oil in it and changing the filter once in a while.
Make sure the clutch pedal linkage is clean and the return spring is strong. 350s tend to get debris stuck in the linkage and the pedal sometimes does not return fully. Also, the rate-of-shift is very important. If set too sluggish, it can burn up your clutches prematurely. If set to fast, it can break things. Proper setting is thus: Crawler warmed up, trans. in 2nd gear, full throttle, you should be able to shift the reverser back and forth from forward to reverse without touching the clutch pedal and the shift should be smooth, firm, but not snap your neck off. There is an adjustment at the bottom of the control valve that looks like a carburetor jet and is adjusted with a screwdriver. Turn it out, i.e. counterclockwise to make it shift faster and firmer, and in - clockwise for the opposite. Another part of periodic maintenance is a clutch pressure check. We usually kept the 1010s, 350s, and 350Bs set at 100 - 120 PSI, and the wet-steering 350Cs a little higher.

The hard shifting may be due to a sticky shift cable, had the same trouble on a 1010 once.
As far as shifting the reverser, no need to use the clutch pedal, it just splits the same clutch pack that the reverser lever is going to split when you shift it. Lavoy
