I am looking at a 1964 case backhoe which is alledged to have "clutch problems." I am sorry to say I don't have the model number. I don't know anything about tractors (I'm a model T guy) but I am looking for a resonably priced backhoe to use on my 20 acres and I would like to know how much trouble I am looking at to replace a clutch in a 60's vintage Case.

Let's assume that you are looking at a 530CK. ID tag was on right side of tin that has the instruments. Best to warn you now, if it is a 530, you may get very attached to it!!!! Nice unit to use on 20 acres. Not something you can work all day with and compete with these new units but it won't cost 40,000$$. I bought mine with a bad engine, gas, and it really was not that bad a job to get it out. That is the easy way to get to the clutch on them. Some, many?, had a torque converter with lock up clutch, called Case-o-matic. There was a plain clutch and it is referred to as a dry clutch. Get some time and go to the Case board and search the archives for 530CK, 530, and COM. Lots of your questions have been answered there before. Before you put down money, see if one of my posts is there about pins in the hoe/loader. OK to get back to me for ??. Gotta go for now. Check out the Case board.
