Thanks to alot of good advice from you all, and a little money, the machine is running fairly good. I think the engine is useable as it is. I have changed tranny fluid and filters, rebuilt all 3 cylinders on R side. Now, I think I may have goofed up. Left side tilt cylinder had almost no metal left on the 2 round ears that come out and mount between the flat pieces. I very slowly arc welded on some round stock, drilling holes first so as to have grease ports, and I rebuilt the flat pieces as well. Now, I have absolutely no movement in this cylinder. It does nothing when the other side is working correctly. I unhooked it also to make sure it was not just poor alignment of holes on my part. No luck. It is getting fluid. I can not extend or depress by hand and I can not rotate rod. Have I messed up and warped the inside or the rod? The rod was almost all of the way out when I did my welding. Or have I just cooked all of the seals? Any ideas. Can it be fixed if something is warped?
Also, how do you get the hydraulic filter off when it is so tight it will not budge? I have tried end housing nut, strap wrench, PB Blaster. Next move I guess is to take entire assembly off and put in a vice. Any other suggestions?
And my hydraulic tank drain is sheared off. Looks like ROPS mount rammed it and broke it off. I guess best way to drain fluid is to crack hose on LP side of pump. Any other suggestions? Will water boil itself out of hydraulic fluid? I seem to have some and without a drain it is hard to get it out.

Thanks in advance.....again.

Case dealer had me very worried when he told me to never weld on a cylinder unless it was under water. Based on that, I knew I had ruined it. But, he was able to get it apart and put a new seal kit in it and it appears to work, for the time being anyway. It does stick more than the other side, but I expect that. Guess I got really lucky, especially when he told me the price of a new cylinder.
Anyway, they have helped me alot.
For those that do not know - Do not weld on a hydraulic cylinder!
Now I know, and hopefully someone else will read this and think twice.

Thanks,

I could be wrong, but it sounds to me like you have "spot welded" the piston to the cylinder. Anytime you arc weld on a cylinder, you take that risk. Where did you set your ground? The best way I have found is to ground directly to the piece you are welding to. This helps to keep the current flow centered on the area you're working on, and not go throughout the entire piece - or the entire tractor. But as with anything, it's not always foolproof. Cylinders, and anything containing gears or bearings, should always be torn down first (if at all possible) before any arc welding is to take place. I would recommend that you tear down the cylinder and have a look at it. If it's just spotted to the cylinder, you can probably polish it out with some emery cloth. Since you say it is at the end of the stroke, it should be okay. You will probably need to repack it, just to be safe. Good luck!
