john deere 450c no reverse without any sign of a problem done it all at once any idea of where to start checking would be apreciated.

If you put the gear selector into neutral , shift the HLR shifter between speeds and listen for equal engine pulldown in each speed...they all should be about equal sounding. There is a guage port under the 1 1/4" cap in the middle of the transmission top cover. You can check for engagement pressure there for each clutch pack . But that problem is usually a gradually occuring thing...Another problem area was the reverse countershaft would snap the end off where the front bearing is located. Updated shafts have a larger shaft circumference and a larger bearing.
