I have just but afew questions so ill be quick. my manuals will be in on monday but i was wondering on my JD-450b under the seat there are two cast bodys each with one hyd. line running to them these are inturn connected to the steering levers what are these ? because there is a small amount of oil around them . Next the big consern is on the left track the front roller has the flange broke off half way around on the inside ,then the back roller next to the sprocket was very warm just warm enough that it didnt take long to look at it ! %&*#$ With that said what do i do ? I know that what wears together should stay together. But would putting say 4 new rollers on this machine be a bad thing my funding for this project is closely viewed by the (wife) thanks for the info

Those things under your seat are the power-steering cylinders. You won't hurt anything putting a couple of new rollers in - but putting them in is not always easy.

Not quite sure how to answer that. Yes,they can fail - but you can still use the machine. Some of the older machines have a separate power-steering pump on the engine with its own oil reservoir. Quite often, it's empty, and the power steering hasn't worked for years, and the owner doesn't know it. If the systems runs out of oil, the power-assist function stops working and then the machine steers fine anyway, just a little harder. Those cylinders are actually self-contained power-steering units minus a pressure oil source. There is supposed to be a pressure line running to them that has pressure oil all the time whenever the engine is running. When you pull on a steering lever, the unit senses the movement, a little internal valve opens, and sends the pressure oil to the part of the unit that is actually a piston and cylinder - and thus aids in the steering.

The filter is on the side of reverser through the track you can see it. It is just above the skid pan.
