440icd, (2-53) Fuel pump Governor question

Ok, I have two questions; I hope some one can help.
On the fuel pump.
This pump delivers fuel to the fuel manifold at a low PSI. But I believe there is a pressure check valve that maintains fuel at a slightly higher PSI in the fuel manifold. Where is this check valve or pressure switch??

Governor question.
If I disconnect the main throttle linkage at the governor, so the fuel rod that operates the injectors moves freely by hand.

Can the engine be started if someone operates this by hand? or does the governor have to be hooked up? The fuel shut off is a lever that forces the linkage down shutting off the fuel anyway. This can be done by hand on the fuel rail.

Thanks
Scott

let the govener hooked up and snap a pair of vice grips on the injector rack.....if it tries to run away you can control it with the vice grips.

been doing it this way for years.....havent had a run away yet

the fuel regulator is a restricted fitting that screws in the head on the return port and keeps the pressure at a constant pressure. the governor, needs to be in place or be ready to run from the flying parts. Not a pretty sight.good luck, david

It's your engine and your gonads next to all that whirling metal. Don't push the linkage up if she over revs. I don't see why one would try to start her without the govenor connected. A safty person with a hunk of plywood held just above the air intake would be a good idea.
