Shoot, I haven't even got this thing running yet and now Iam asking non motor questions.....
Here it goes.

I notice when I pull on the right steering lever the Brake pedal comes back, there is almost no free play before pedal moves. The left steering lever doesn't move pedal at all and there is lots of free play. ????? ??

Is it stuck????? What do you think?

This thing should be running wed(I hope).
Then I can move on to many more problems, Iam sure...
Thanks
scott

thanks
scott

I have the same exact condition on my 440. I have it torn down now and it appears that the bell crank on the shaft the lever connects to is binding. This is just under the square cover below the seat. It ( the bell crank) is activated as the lever comes back, but is loose so that the foot brake can also activate the brake band. They rust up and stick.I think this could be your situation

Rick,
so how torn down do you have to go to fix this?
Does the machine move at all when you try and go foward?
Thanks
scott

scott The machine would move in that condition. I would have to press the lever forward after a turn by force though. Try this - press down on the foot brake, the lever should come back, - now with the foot held down push the lever forward. If it will press forward the bell crank is not stuck solid. I think it will drive even if it is stuck, just have to deal with the lever moving when you step on the brake. I have the final drives off of mine because I want to hone out the bell crank and place a grease fitting in it. I also have to fixe some bearings in the other final drive, that self destructed. It is a bit of a job.
