Found another Cat D7-14A. Of course it is cable, pony start and hand clutch. Really would like hydraulic, electric and torque converter. But, for working around an 80 acre farm is that realistic. And, maybe the cable, pony and clutch are not all that bad figuring the dozer is roughly less than 1/3 of something good that has electic, hydraulic and torque converter. Any feelings from you guys? The pads and grousers look great. The sprockets are deep and thick at the edge. The "boss area" of the chain or rail is a good distance from the lower rollers - like over 3/4 of an inch. Owner says the coolant stays put and it doesn't burn any oil. Good original seat. Don't know if I would find another one this good. Less than 8 miles from my farm too!!! Wants $6500 ... might get it bought for $5000. Wouldn't have a $1000 haul bill either! Paint is not that bad. Blade is very good ... tight joints/good edge. Owners says no generator but just drop a battery in and pony starts right up. Even has a key switch to start pony. I think the owner is a straight shooter. Is this an OK buy? Thanks.

My sentiments exactly Dale ! I think I'd be handing him the $$ quickly !

If the undercarriage (U/C) is in good shape by eye, I'd still want to measure it to confirm ( not to be a jerk or anything but...) it's really best to measure and compare your measurements to what the U/C should be new, have been told CAT used to come out and do this for free, I've seen them do it when I worked as an operator, but in any case if you could find someone who knows or can help you, you will get an accurate percentage worn vs. eyeballing, also good to know by measuring the U/C because sometimes a pin & bush turn or new pins and bushings will help you get the best service life out of the rest of the U/C, rollers idlers & sprockets, kind of like spending a little money to keep the wear factor multiplying & getting maximum use out of the U/C. Just my opinion, really sounds like a nice one though

One other thing, take care of the pony, oil changed often, carb & fuel system clean ( tanks rust up & clog sediment bowls ) keep the magneto in good shape, ( solid conductor spark plug wires points clean etc. ) they like a hot spark. Drain gasout of the carb/turn fuel off let it run out, I drain my bowl with a petcock in drain plug hole, (pony runs awhile so this is faster ) reason for that is to make sure gas does not thin out your oil if it leaks down into the crankcase, thinned oil will wreck a pony quickly. Anyways, you may already know about these, but figured it could'nt hurt to coer the basics. Good Luck with it if you get it, great machine for the farm !

OK, and the question is?? Considering the Bank is only paying about 1% interest, might as well have the money doing something you can have fun with. There is a 7 on a farm near here, nice paint, covered with tarp, I've yet to stop and get a look, mostly to compare to a D8 that we have.

Why do I always "hear" these stories, instead of telling them? Seriously, that sounds like a good deal to me. In my area of MO, a machine in that kind of shape will usually sell for at least $6500 - normally more.
