Prime fuel system on a D6C

We have a D6C and evidently used up our fuel. Anyway it appears we need to prime the system to get it to run again.

We have a Maintenance Manual but the fuel bowl and priming pump appear to be different.

Our fuel separator is a square device with a petcock drain at the bottom to drain out water or other sediment and another petcock at the top. It appears that we cannot obtain any fuel to run out of the top petcock.

Is it necessary to prime the system to get the fuel to run out of the top petcock?

In normal operations, one can open either petcock and fuel, water, or other sediment will run out of it.

Also the priming pump in the manual seems to be different than the one on our D6. It appears that to operate ours one has to release the plunger by turning the plunger CCW and then pulling and pushing the plunger.

Has anyone got a CAT Fuel System Priming 101 course that would assist us neophytes?

Any assistance you can give will be appreciated.

Frank, get a few gallons of fuel in the tank.Make sure the valves on the square glass filter/water seperator are closed. Open the valve on the filter and start pumping with the priming pump untill fuel flows out of the filter bleed valve. Close the filter bleed valve and loosen the nuts on fuel injection lines up at the nozzels. Pump some more untill fuel and air bubbles come out. Continue to pump untill the fuel comes out free of air then tighten up the fuel line nuts. Then start the engine.
