I am looking to buy a TD-18A. I have found one in fairly good condition it is a 1957 model with hydraulic dozer. The guy is asking $1500, is that a fair price? It has very few minor problems. The engine and injector pump were rebuilt 2 years ago. Is the TD-18A a good machine? Also what is a D8 cat built in the 1960's worth. Thankyou

That is a great price, if it does not need major work. TD-18 is a sizable crawler, and will do big work for you. If you are not comfortable with asscertaining the condition of the tracks, sprockets, etc., find someone who is knowledgable to help. If it is in OK condition, and the motor, clutch, brakes, and injectors seem to be OK, 1,500 is a geeat price. If not, a considerable amount of money can be spent reparing them. Obviously a crawler that is 47 years ols won't be perfect, but if you have a solid feel for the condition it is in, and what you want to be able to do with it, you will make the right decision. What are the minor problems, and what do you really want to do with it? I own a 1958 IH crawler and it does exactly what I need it to do. Love it.

Ask any question you have, and see if there is someone local who can help too.

Great crawlers, these IHC ones.

Good luck!
