Body of Message:
Hi all
I asked the other day for advice about my Hydrostatic transmission problem and someone suggested changing the hydraulic oil filter to see if that helped.Well i have ,and the oil, and a dodgy looking hose and it is no better (but am gratefull for the advice!)
Basically it will move slowly forward (in low) untill it meets a slight gradient and then gives up.It is reasonably ok in reverse.
I cannot find a manual anywhere for it so am slightly in the dark about what to do
Has anyone out there got any technical advice as to what to do/what the problem is?
If anyone has a chapter in their manual of the same type of transmission i am happy to pay for a photcopy of it
Any advice would be really good
Thanks
Mike

I'm not an expert on hydrostatic drives as used in IH tractors, but I HAVE worked on them in other machines. The swash plates tend to wear, and when they do the machine will barely move in the direction of whichever plate is worn (there's one for reverse and one for forward). This sort of wear comes gradually, and will start to give problems when the machine is hot. I've worked on several hydrostatic drives that work fine cold, but won't move at all once good and hot. Many tractor companys don't offer parts, only complete units for the hydrostatic drives. This because they have many tight fitting parts, and usually when they wear, they wear out completely. If your machine became this way gradually, the pistons and plates are probably worn out. If it happened all-of-a-sudden, then maybe it's an adjustment somewhere. As far as suspecting filters, that's unlikely with a hydrostatic drive since the principle of operation is a low flow of oil at a very high pressure. Now, a hydraulic drive is something totally different from hydrostatic since IT uses high flow and moderate pressure.
