Greg, TO-4 is a Caterpillar specification for oils used in powershift transmissions and hydraulic systems. There are other 10W hydraulic oils out there, but they may not have all the additives for the transmission. The TO-4 oils are not hard to find. I'm using Phillips 66 Torq Fluid, because our local oil distributor handles Phillips. I know that Exxon and Texaco have similar products. You are correct in stating that the manual calls for a 10W engine oil. However, it would appear that there is a difference between the engine oils available here and those available in Japan. It mainly has to do with detergent additives. There was a lengthy thread on this subject in this forum a week or two ago. However, it you have a standard shift transmission (shifter comes out the floor, not the left console), it uses plain old 90W. The clutch housing and the hydraulic system uses the 10W. I say go with the TO-4 for your 10W needs. You may find a less expensive 10W for the hydraulic system, but the TO-4 will cover everything, allowing the use of a single product for the transmission (power shift), clutch housing, and hydraulic system. I understand your frustration. I went through the same thing around the first of the year, and this is what I came up with. BTW, on another subject, I would suggest that you pull the covers over the steering clutches (Two flat plates, about 4X12, under the seat), and check for rust. I you find much in there, pull the clutches and clean them up. You just might save yourself a big parts/repair bill if you catch it in time. My clutches were already partially stuck, and I had to replace everything. Ouch.Hope all this is a little clearer than mud. John
