Tried Out The 300 Today had a hose on hoe blown so repaired that(And refilled the fluid ) and took it for a drive, Works great in reverse but forewards it just barley pull its self , Probably have answered my own question, I think the foreward clutch packs are worn out but would like another opinion, Also He say's he has to open the bypass on hydraulic pump sometimes to releave the presure so engine will start. What does everone think. Thanks for the help DOUG

Many Deere tractors won't start hot unless the hydraulic pump is destroked. Very common and not necessarily a big problem. You need to ascertain if the hydraulics still work well once the tractor is good and hot and if the hydraulic oil is getting overheated. The starting problem can be related to general overall wear throughout the hydraulic system - or it can be from one major issue. If the latter, it should become evident once the tractor is hot. I didn't see any mention of the selling/asking price so I'm not sure how to comment. As far as the reverser goes, hope for the best but anticipate the worst when making an offer.

He said he won't take any less than $6500. for it if the reverser is going bad i'll pass on it the hydralicls seem to work ok when hot., and i haven't had any problem starting it yet. Only reason i was wanting it was for the diesel, My MF 40 is i verry good shape except for the brake whitch barley hold and it's a gas engine. Thanks for the reply DOUG

300 is a good smaller hoe. It has excellent power-brakes, power steering, etc. Good little engine that's easy to work on, basically the same engine as used in the 350 crawler. $6500 sounds steep for a machine with a slipping reverser though - that could be a $2000 repair if done in a dealer's shop. From what you've decribed, the $6500 would be a fair price is all was working okay on it. But, who knows? Deere prices are often wacky. I looked at a 300 hoe/loader that was for sale on sealed bid at a school. Real clean looking. It had a Drott clam-shell front bucket on it, full cab, and lots of new parts. Only problem was the reverser was slipping. My bid was $4000 but it sold for $4500 to a higher bidder. That was a good deal, but not for me.

If it's in decent shape it would easily bring $6000 - $7000 here in Central New York State.
I tried to buy one recently that was worn all over, engine smoked, reverser slipped, linkage on the hoe swing broken, and engine block cracked where the front-end bolts to it, etc. I offered $3200 and the guy wouldn't take it. I have no idea what he ever got for it. That's the curse of Deere - i.e. high resale value unless it's a 2010.
300 is a real handy little machine - I've got one I use as a farm tractor. Basically, it's just a 1020 farm tractor painted yellow and sold under the industrial tag.
