I just bought a D20A-6 w/1500 hours and the seller is also providing new tracks as part of the deal (uninstalled). I "think" I negotiated a good deal thanks to this forum. I have several questions:

1) Anyone know where I can get operator and shop manuals? My local dealer can get the operator manual but not the shop manual.
2) Should I remove the pads from the old rails before or after I break the track and pull it off?
3) Should I try to save any of the bolts or just burn them all off? (Old owner says I can re-use, but I insisted on 150 new bolts -about 1/2 of them - anyway)
4) Where should I position the master link for pin removal/installation (I've seen responses stating on the idler and also bottom rear of sprocket).
5) Should I put the pads on the new rails before or after installing the chain on the tractor?
6) What should I torque the pad bolts to? I've seen a range of 150-300 pounds in previous responses.
7) Is there a rule of thumb for determining when the track is properly tensioned? 8) Am I asking for trouble rplacing the tracks but not the sprockets? 9) Should I even try this or spend $600 plus transportation to have it professionally done?

Thanks in advance for your advice. Can't wait start to start building hunting trails in northern Wisconsin!

1)Can't help with the manuals
2)I would take the pads off the rails while on the machine as it acts as a bench
3)See how easy it is to undo them,if you have an impact wrench they may come off easy
4)Use whatever spot you have the most room
5)If the rails are on it holds in position while tightening, don't forget that the rails are directional, you can put them on backways so take note of how the old one were, female link coming over the top of the idler.
6)As I don't know the bolt size I don't know the torque.tighten the bolts tight and whack each one with a heavy hammer and retighten.
7)After getting the tracks on and running the machine back and forth,go forward again stop and stand on the track between the top roller and front idler, you should have about an inch of sag if more tighten it up
8)Worn sprockets and new chains are not a good idea, they are usually fitted together.
9)If you are any way handy you should be able to do it yourself and buy two sprocket rims with the money you save and you will have trouble free uc for the future,
If cutting the pad bolts off with the hot axe do it on the rail side so not to damage the pads.
Good luck
AJ
