What would be a better choice choosing between used sprockets-one that has about 1000 hrs on it, round points but, has worn about 3/8 of an inch off the inside edge. (side wear) Or one that has 3000 or more hrs with even wear and about 125 thousands of an inch thickness left at the point. Can anyone guess how much life is left in the second one if the track is reshimmed so it is in proper alignment? How much should new sprockets cost, are they available aftermarket?

Berco can supply replacement sprockets at a reasonable cost. As a comparison, I just bought a set for a 350B that were $159 each. I can't imagine the 450 sprockets would be much more. Worn sprockets translate to accelerated wear on bushings. Unless your whole undercarriage is reaching the end of it's life, I would replace the sprockets with new. If you have to pay for the used sprockets and you are going through the agony of breaking the track to replace the sprockets it just doesn't make sense to not go new.

Yes, i was surprised to see they are about $200 for a 450. The machine had 700 hrs on the set but worn badly on inside edge. Being new to it all, i was going to use another as i thought that if worn, wear would take the point off and the round point meant the point had worn off. Thanks to the forum, Now i know they wear to a point. So i wasted time cleaning and painting it, but fortuneatly didn't put the track back on. Best to get a new one and correct the track alignment. Thanks.

You also mentioned that the sprocket was wearing on the inside edge. It sounds like you have a bad bottom rear roller or rollers. Jack up the machine so the tracks hang. If the rear roller is loose, it will scrape against the sides of the sprocket and quickly wear that area away. You might need to replace at least the rear roller or rollers. According to the Deere manuals, you should be able to release the pressure from the adjuster and have enough slack in the track to remove and replace rollers. The rollers at the ends of the track frames always get the most wear. You could swap the ends for the middle but in my experience if the roller is scraping the edge of the sprocket, it is completely shot. If you wait too long it will wear through the rock guards. My late model sealed Berco rollers for the 350 were $110 each. The 450 rollers should not be too much more. Good luck.

Right on, the front roller was shot and gouged the track carrier and rock guard. The rear was worn as were the rest, but the track carrier was cracked at the flange where it fits on the rear cross bar too. I have welded it up and have some new and good U. rollers for it. Basically using the good parts from another machine thats scrap. I wasn't expecting to replace the sprocket with these repairs but it doesn't make sense not to. I'm glad to hear rollers can contribute to the side wear, i was wondering if the track carrier was bent at one point too. After looking at the other side, the alignment is way off over there too. Looks like previous owner just put new sprockets on without regard to rollers condition or alignment. I bought it cause it had it all, turbo diesel, ps, winch, hlr trans, 6 way blade, full brush and roll guards, limb risers, rebuilt eng and rebuilt hlr and steering clutches. With 782 hrs on those repairs including those sprockets. Now i know they just resealed the hlr without replacing clutches. I'll fix it with a little help and keep pecking at it until its done. Wish those were wet steering clutches, thanks for the tip.
