Received my rebuilt injector pump back. Cost was $568. Break down 290 labor 260 parts. Anyone know if this is typical-hi-low?

The pump was rebuilt at Zips in St Cloud, MN & looked NEW! Had to check the SN to be sure it was mine!

Thanks for all the previous tips. Lubed up the shaft seals & wiggled it all back together, matching up the index marks. Didn't have to crack the injectors to bleed, a little cranking was all it needed to start smoking & run.

The Dozer is back purring ready to push out some more boulders I loosened up with a backhoe.

Yeah, that's the way things should go, bleeding isn't necessary. I'm surprised you were able to slide the pump over the new seals sucessfully - unless you've done it before. When done without the special tool (and sometimes even with it), the umbrella seal that faces the pump gets folded over, and after a while, your engine crankcase gets full of diesel fuel. But, the repair shop probably put a new bronze bushing in the pump which allowed the seals to slide nicely.

Sounds reasonable. Many places just charge a flat-rate for exchange, often around $525. Some pumps can be rebuilt for less than $100 in parts, but others need over $700.

My 450 ran $250. Guess it depends on work needed. They told me it had worn seals and parts, but if you have been reading the forum there are no seals on the high pressure side. There is a seal or o-ring or gasket that will cause an external leak at the front. Hopefully for that price they replaced/rebuilt it all, so your new high pressure fuel won't blow out any old parts. Thats the differance between rebuilding and just repairing in my opinon.
