I recently 'inherited' a Deere 450C crawler. I haven't located a manual for it yet but I need to add some hydraulic fluid and change the engine oil. Will the standard hydraulic fluid used in tractor rear ends and lift systems work in the dozer? Also, what weight of oil should I use in the engine? I live in Georgia so this machine will be operated in hot weather conditions.

Thanks for your help,
Mike

You can use universal trator fluid,or John deere Hyguard in the hydraulics. You may use either a good diesel grade 15w-40 or 30w in the engine. Might also be a good idea to change out the antifreeze and add some coolant conditioner, those engines have a tendency to pinhole the liners if the cooling system isn't kept up.

Brokenwrench, thanks for the information. I know these are very basic questions but I don't want to pour something into it that might cause any problems. I opened the cap on the radiator and it was full of bright green antifreeze. I will add some conditioner.

Thanks again for your help,
Mike
