Hi Folks,
My question is on the crowd cylinder on the hoe. Yesterday, while digging in soft earth, the crowd cylinder started to drip fluid. I extended the boom all the way to take a look and found the fluid is coming from behind the nut past the threads and not the seal around the shaft. I took a brass drift and tried to tighten the nut more, but it was tight. Is there a way to disconnect the cylinder from the hoe frame, loosen the nut and replace the "O" ring behind it or seal, which ever it is.It looks like you could get an "O" ring down over the nut with out stretching it out of shape. Or, do I need to do it the hard way and remove the entire cylinder from the hoe. P.S. By the end of the day, I had a pretty steady drip flow going, so it's not getting better. That's for sure..

Thanks..Chip

Deere uses several different types of cylinders and locking mechanisms, so I'm not sure what you have. If it's a slotted nut that tightens on threads that are sticking out - you need to take the nut off, make the sure the cylinder is at least half-way retracted, then drive the threaded part that is sticking out back into the cylinder barrel until you can get to the internal snap ring it is jammed against. We used an adapter/protector to drive it in without damaging the threads. Then take out the snap ring, and you then have to get the threaded piece to come back out. Years ago, we just did with hydraulic pressure, but it makes a mess. You can also pull at the end of the rod and the whole deal will come out. The o-ring and backup washer are probably on that treaded piece, and not inside the barrel.

Thanks JD.. I may be in over my head on this one. It looks like the retainer nut is threaded to the inside of the piston housing. The nut is actually flush with the outside of the cylinder. It has four cut out areas on it which I have to assume are for a spanner wrench???? I was just hopeing for an easy fix.....
