No problem, not ready to tackle the project right at the moment, but I will print this out for future reference as I will have to deal with these linings at some point in the near future. I've got LeTourneau power control units on both my D-7's, old obsolete double spool cable units to operate the dozer & or a cable scraper. They require a little tinkering, adjusting but other than the clutch cone(s) facings, brake band facings not too much else seems to go wrong with them, so for orginality it would be nice to keep them on both machines. I've got one in good original operating order with low hours, and another that will need a tear down, and most likely facings replaced. Fortunately I have the books on them, the cones are concentric in shape and to re-line them you must press on the new lining tightly to a tapered steel cone, then rivet the facing to the cone. Also need to use a lathe to take down any high spots ( for metallic facings ) prior to assembly, metallic facings need to have a 15 deg. taper ( I assume this is the same taper on the steel cone which the facings are attached to. If metallic facings are put on in segments onto the cone, just have to make sure the taper is correct and equal around the circumference and that they are tightly adhered, otherwise the clutch will feel spongy. They were either manufactured with woven facings and also metallic facings. There are details in the book regarding re-lining which I could possibly scan & forward prior to and or with an order I also have a spare cone that could be looked at to see what could be done, it's not in great shape, but all there. There are quite a few of these type of units still in use by antique caterpillar owners, and I do not know of anyone as of yet who could re-line these cones correctly, if it can be done, I'm sure others may want to have cones re-lined to preserve their LeTourneau units instead of having to replace them with the later Caterpillar ones, so there may be a small market out there for this work.
