I just purchased a 1947 HG 42.
I think the tracks are slightly wider than other cletracs I've seen. But my question is:
How does one determine the correct tension in the tracks? The man I bought it from told me he keep them loose because he only used it plow snow and the ice buildup tensioned the tracks. Is there a different tension for summer or winter, I would sure hate to throw a track.

thanks

mark

My Oliver 0C-6 book advises to ' keep the track as loose as possible to facilitate turning and reduce wear'....hope that helps, but I know the feeling of worry when they are too loose. Also, the do build up with snow and strech a bit in the winter. I once had a Cletrac BG, and they got so impacted that I had to stop and thaw them, lest i snapped something.

My OC-46 manual says to lay a straigh-edge across the top of the track and adjust for a 2" sag in the middle.

I think the HG is similar size to my OC-46 and this has been working well for me.
