Grouser Bars

I have a 450B Deere. Each pad has a single bar about an inch high. When I'm in greasy stuff traction is worse of course and steering is poor especially while pushing. My questions are- would an additional bar help? Or would it be just as bad as soon as it clogs? Or would a taller grouser be of any help? Would the stress on u/c be much more? U/c is worn some, pins/ bushings aren't bad and don't appear to have been turned. Sprockets are pointed, track never seems to "jump"
or make bad noises. Any suggestions appreciated. Gus

You may want to check the wear on your sprockets, as if your pins and bushings are decent, a worn sprocket will increase the wear factor on the pins and bushings, shortening the life of them, also good to have new sprockets, segments or built back up to spec if you have the pins and bushings turned, so that they align properly in the sprocket, otherwise the wear factor multiplies. Its good to measure everything up, you may discover an option or two worth spending a few $$ on to get max. life out of your U/C.

Gus,

Taller grousers would certainly help your pushing and turning ability. I have an old Cat D6-8U with fairly worn-out grousers and I do notice problems turning with a load in the blade. However, it will also increase the stress on the drive train, especially the final drives. One of the main reasons I haven't built mine up is fear of killing a final. I'd rather let her spin and live for another day. If you could find out what the dimensions are for new grousers it may tell you a little more. The drivetrain was designed to handle the stress when its all new but as the machine ages you have to be a little more careful. For what its worth!!!

Thanks Tommy, breaking something else is my concern. I'll see if I can find original specs. Gus
