I recently purchased a jd 350? and got it for a steal. My question is what model did I buy? A friend has a 1986 350c and it seems like the same machine except mine has a pto engage lever below the seat on the drivers side. His has a vin # on the battery box on the drivers side and it appears that mine had one at one time under the seat on the right side of machine any ideas or suggestions?

Sounds like you have a straight 350. My 350 has the pto lever as you described and the vin tag in the same location and it is a 1965. Post your serial number and someone will come back with the year of your machine. Steve is right, the 350 and the 350b had dry clutches and the C model had wet. My 350 has a loader and I have gotten quite a bit of use out of it. My main suggestion is to get a hold of a Service Manual that matches your machine (note: For the 350, the manuals are divided by serial number). It might cost a couple of bucks (I paid $35 for mine) but it will be worth it in the long run. Good luck with your machine and enjoy the "toy"!

P.S. SHE WHO MUST BE OBEYED has told me that my 350 has to go!!!

Tim, The 350c has wet steering clutches and the 350B has a dry steering clutch.I have a 350B. I know the 350B's pretty well, they were made in the 70's early 80's when the 350c's took over. I have all the books and manuals for the B's. I also threw a small web together, I can E-Mail it to you if you would like..

I beleave you are right on the 350 model. Where did you get your service manual? I was quoted a price of $133.00 for the "service" manual it is about 470 pgs or so from the local jd dealer. Any suggestions on places to buy parts etc?

Steve that would be great!!!! Thank you for the info. I know this seems like a stupid question but how can I tell from a simple visual inspection which type of clutch system it has? I haven't been around equipment like dozers much as far as maintianence etc but with a simple explaination I am sure I could figure it out. I looked under the seat and there are two inspection plates infront of the fuel tank are these for the clutches? And please email me with any info or site recommendations thanks.
