Hi Bill,Have you checked to see if the spool is in the steering control valve, there is a hyd hose in the steering housing that can give trouble,if those are ok,do you know what the presure is at the steering control valve,----- ----Joe.

I'm New to this dozer ownership ordeal, The Left final drive was replaced less than a year ago and now when the left steering clutch is pulled back it is slow or no response. The left clutch has always seemed a little slower to respond than the right since I have had the Dozer but now its really noticeable. A couple of local mech. (neighbors) looked at it and said they thought the clutch is out by the way it wa handeling. Could it be an adjustment/linkage problem. I was pushing a stump out just prior to the disaster. Is there a possibility something has come loose or jammed in the mech. I'm just reaching for a simple fix. Otherwise, what kind of job does the clutch replacement entail (hrs/and cost avg.) Thanks for your help,
Bill

can you describe what you mean "slow to respond" when you pull the lever.? Will it drive in a straight line and spin both tracks if you were to push against something immoveable? When turning , what happens when you pull back the steering lever ? A little more info and we'll try and save you any un needed effort. A simple explanation of how they work. Hydraulic pressure squeazes together a stack of "fiber" discs and steel discs...this connects the transmission output to the final drive and makes the machine move. When you pull a steering lever , it dumps the hydraulic pressure and allows the fiber discs and steel plates to seperate and slip. This disconnects the connection between transmission output and the final drive. A little further pull on the lever tightens a brake band connected to the final drive and holds that track in position to make the machine turn.

Ok, to refresh my memory, I went out, started the dozer. and this is what it does. Power is only to the right track period. If I push the right brake or pull the right steering lever the cat stops and one time it acted as if it was under a load while I held the brake peddle. Pulling the Left steering lever produces a full power shift to the right track and a sharp turn. To drive straight forward, I am pushed in a circular motion from the right track. I took any slack out of the steering linkage with no change, just crisper lever control from the left.

They have to be removed from the top. The 350's were removed from the side by first removing the final drive. If you need parts let us know. We have new steering discs as well as other parts.
