I have an older 977 cat loader.I was thinking about trying to convert it to pedal steer. Has anyone done this or is it possible? Thanks for any input.

Hi, Jay. Very little is impossible if you have the time, the expertise, the imagination, the facilities and the 'loot'.

What you would have to set up is a system that will disengage the steering clutch in the first 3" or so of movement and then begins applying the brake. It is so long ago since I operated a stick-steer 977 and I did so little on them that I can't remember what there is to work with - unusual for me.

If what little memory there is serves me correctly, there is normally a fair amount of free travel on the steering brakes, maybe enough to allow for the clutches to be disengaged in the first 3". Then all you would have to do is set up a linkage to the steering clutches -- ALL being the operative word.

Hope this helps.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Jay I think it would be a lot of work for ?? results. You could likely put in the peddals from a newer one but the peddal steer machines had oil clutches and a different steering valve.
